Track Review: Yo La Tengo - Before We Run

The best out-of state view of New York City has to be Hoboken, New Jersey, the birthplace of alternative rock trio Yo La Tengo. I say this because that's what I imagine when listening to YLT's pre-release single Before We Run, taken from their 13th studio album, Fade. First we have the sound of a plugged in electric guitar ready to go, then the deep drumming by vocalist/drummer Georgia Hubley. Ira Kaplan then adds his melodic guitar riff which last throughout the track.

The track lasts over six minutes and will be the album closer. There's a surprise inclusion of brass and strings, both adding character and depth to the track. Before We Run lets the music do the talking, sounding fresh and alike the string heavy post-rock artists like Sigur Ros. The track continuously leaves the listener on edge, with the whole track sounding like an extended outro. This could prove vital in album format, with this track being the outro to the album. YLT's 13th album will become available in the New Year.
